Our Practice
Estate Planning & Asset Management
A will is the mainstay of estate planning. Callin Wild will taylor the structure, style and content of your will to ensure it meets your exact needs and wishes.
As well as the preparation of wills we have a significant experience in the preparation of trust deeds and can advise upon the sort of structure that will be most beneficial to your situation.
Whilst we would encourage you to meet face-to-face to discuss your situation and wishes when preparing a will, we are content to draft a will based on e-mail or other correspondence where this is more convenient to you. Simply let us know what we can do to accommodate you.
Common Q&A
- How much will it cost? – The cost will vary according to the complexity of your will but normally we are able to prepare wills at a fixed fee established in advance – please call for a quote. A small amount spent now may also save your estate a considerable expense later.
- Do you need a will if you are not rich? – It does not matter how much you have, if you want to make specific provision as to what happens to specific items then you need a will to do this. Your will may also deal with other issues important to you such as burial/cremation requests or guardianship of children.
- Do you need a will if you want to leave everything to your partner? – If you die without a will then the strict intestacy laws will decide who receives what. Whilst this is geared toward a spouse, it can provide limits to what your spouse will receive, and it will not benefit an unmarried partner. Complications can also ensue if you and your spouse die together, and it may be that your assets will benefit your spouse’s family rather than your own.
- How much will the government take? – There is no inheritance tax or death duty on the Isle of Man, but if you were not born on the Isle of Man your estate may potentially be liable to taxes in other jurisdictions. We can advise on methods to mitigate that liability.
- What do I do with my will once it is signed? – We can store your will in our wills safe free of charge where we have prepared it for you. Alternatively you can keep it safe in any location you choose, just make sure that it can be found upon your death.
